If you needed more proof that the energy industry is evil incarnate

I believe that this new TV ad by General Electric is the most offensive thing I have ever seen.

I guess this is somehow supposed to convince us that GE cares about the environment. You know, because burning coal mined in America will make us independent of foreign oil. At least, I think that's the argument that is almost hinted at in the ad.

I have no idea what the half-naked models are supposed to be for. I guess that not only is burning coal environmentally responsible, it's sexy too. I know I emit a low moan of pleasure whenever I think of paying people low wages to do a grueling job that will almost certainly result in an early death or at least debilitating health problems.

Ah, I get it now, this commercial is the sexual fantasy of Dick Cheney. It must have been what they talked about in that closed meeting of so many years ago now from which they never released even the guest list. They probably produced it as a big wet kiss of gratitude to the Vice President for the new energy bill recently passed by the House.

(Probably you do not want to read the actual bill. You might try this analysis for more information, although it is still not exactly a summary. Or do your own Google search, or engage in the futile task of trying to wring some news out of the text of the New York Times or your other favorite newspaper. By the way, for those of us living in Pennsylvania's 14th congressional district, I would like to point out that our very own Rep. Michael Doyle [Democrat] voted 'Aye' on H.R. 6.)
