Addendum to "You asked for it"

I submit that, although I described drinking alcohol, wearing revealing clothing, and walking home alone at night as normal behaviors for women, one who is in the grip of a certain conception of gender roles very well might think these are abnormal or incorrect behaviors for women. Simlarly, someone who is in the grip of that same conception of gender roles might very well think that coercing women into having sex is normal and morally blameless behavior for men. That may very well lead to the backwards conception of who is morally to blame or morally negligent discussed in my previous post.

Indeed, I think this may be taken as part of the more general view, discussed previously on this blog, that for many people, masculinity is a virtue and one's gender determines what is morally permissible or required. As always, I think this view is badly mistaken. But I also think it is unfortunately common.
