That's my arm!

I just read an anecdote in the Village Voice about a conservative blogger who once called a bride a "slut" for showing a tattoo on her wedding day. It made me wonder what about getting a tattoo could possibly cause someone to think it a sign of sexual promiscuity. But that didn't last long. The obvious correlation is that "sluts" are bad because they just have sex with men rather than selecting a single man to whom to transfer ownership of her body. And of course, even before a slut has given ownership of her body to a man, she is taken (by people like the aforementioned blogger) to have a moral duty to make sure nothing is done with her body that her future owner might not approve of. The most typical application of this duty is that a young woman must not have sex. But some people don't like tattoos on purely aesthetic grounds, and getting one is an assertion of propriety rights to do with one's body as one pleases, which may seem a kind of moral affront to one's future husband (who, for all one knows, may not find it sexually appealing).

I wonder how Rod Dreher (the blogger) would feel about a woman who got a tattoo after her wedding day, at the request of her husband?
